Spring­field Catholic claims dis­trict title

  FAIR GROVE — Bekah Bade net­ted four 3-pointers and 29 points to power Spring­field Catholic past Blue Eye 63–55 in the Class 3 Dis­trict 11 cham­pi­onship game on Sat­ur­day.
  The Lady Irish move on to meet Mt. Ver­non in Sec­tion­als on Wednesday.

Irish move into semi­fi­nals (Boys bas­ket­ball roundup)

  FAIR GROVE — Jeff White broke loose for a 19-point effort in Spring­field Catholic’s 56–53 first-round Class 3 Dis­trict 11 tri­umph over Con­way on Tues­day.
  The third-seeded Irish received 11 points apiece from Chad McBride and Mitchell Richard­son.
  Catholic advances to meet second-seeded Fair Grove in a semi­fi­nal on Thurs­day at 7:30 p.m. The other semi­fi­nal pits Straf­ford against Seymour.

Lady Car­di­nals’ Jaeger COC Large Schools Divi­sion Player of the Year

  Webb City junior Kaitlin Jaeger has been named the Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Large Schools Divi­sion Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.
  Jaeger is joined on the All-COC First-Team by team­mates Hai­ley Roderique and Kyn­dal Clark, along with Nixa’s Bethany Fun­der­burke and Emily Walker.
  The Second-Team is made up of Willard’s Sam­mie Gath­er­cole, Nixa’s Randa Raper, Republic’s Kayce Duvall, Ozark’s Melanie Williams and Branson’s Kristina Dodd.
  Hon­or­able men­tion recog­ni­tion goes to Branson’s Cai­lynn Hayter, Webb City’s Scharenda Camp­bell, Carthage’s Kaylee Mor­gan and Ozark’s Han­nah Gomez.

Nixa, Repub­lic cap­ture dis­trict titles (Boys bas­ket­ball roundup)

  SPRING­FIELD — Nixa claimed the Class 5 Dis­trict 11 cham­pi­onship by beat­ing Bran­son 62–47 in an all-Central Ozark Con­fer­ence Large Schools Divi­sion final on Sat­ur­day.
  For Bran­son (24−4), the 47 points is a season-low.
  Nixa’s defense held the Pirates to 22 second-half points.
  Zac Hill topped the Eagles with 18 points. Avery Ding­man paced Bran­son with 21.
  Else­where on Sat­ur­day:
  — Repub­lic came back to win the Class 4 Dis­trict 11 cham­pi­onship in its 43–33 tri­umph over fel­low Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Small Schools Divi­sion mem­ber Reeds Spring.  
  The Tigers trailed 25–14 in the third quar­ter, before turn­ing the game around. Nic Yocum trig­gered the win­ners’ rally, scor­ing all 15 of his points in the sec­ond half.
  Reeds Spring received 16 points from Ben Selby. The Wolves scored 13 second-half points.

Lady Irish advance to semi­fi­nals (Girls bas­ket­ball roundup)

  FAIR GROVE — Spring­field Catholic made it to the semi­fi­nal round in Class 3 Dis­trict 11 action by down­ing fel­low Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Small Schools Divi­sion foe Hol­lis­ter 55–44 in a first-round game on Sat­ur­day.
  The Lady Irish received 18 points from Danielle Lampe and 16 from Bekah Bade.
  Hollister’s Cas­san­dra Kim­brough scored 19 points.
  Catholic will meet Fair Grove in a semi­fi­nal on Wednes­day.

Four COC teams to play for dis­trict titles

  Bran­son, Nixa, Repub­lic and Reeds Spring will square off on Sat­ur­day for dis­trict titles after all four posted semi­fi­nal wins on Thurs­day.
  In Class 5 Dis­trict 11 at Spring­field Parkview, the Pirates whipped Spring­field Kick­apoo 73–41 and the Eagles out­lasted Spring­field Parkview 60–48.  
  Bran­son received 23 points and 13 rebounds from Dana Thomas and 18 points from Tee Helsel.
  Bran­son and Nixa will tan­gle at 6 p.m. on Sat­ur­day.
  In Class 4 Dis­trict 11 at Repub­lic, the host Tigers whipped McDon­ald County 65–30 and the Wolves slipped past Cassville 62–54.
  Ben Selby’s 19 points paced Reeds Spring.
  Repub­lic and Reeds Spring will meet on Sat­ur­day at 2 p.m.

Lady Wild­cats drop first-round game (Girls bas­ket­ball roundup)

  CARTHAGE — Neosho’s sea­son came to an end as the Lady Wild­cats fell to Spring­field Hill­crest 61–31 in a Class 5 Dis­trict 12 first-round game on Tues­day.
  Shea Wyatt’s nine points topped Neosho.
  In the district’s other opening-round game, Spring­field Cen­tral edged Joplin 65–57.
  In semi­fi­nal play on Thurs­day, top-seeded Willard will meet Cen­tral and second-seeded Carthage will play Hillcrest.

Carthage knocks off Neosho (Boys bas­ket­ball roundup)

  CARTHAGE — Fifth-seeded and tour­ney host Carthage upended fourth-seeded Neosho 55–50 in Class 5 Dis­trict 12 action on Mon­day.
  The Tigers received 13 points from Ethan Wig­gin and 11 from Desmond Buerge.
  Neosho was led by Alex Wise’s 16 points and Michael Lowe’s 13.
  In the district’s other first-round game, third-seeded Willard edged Spring­field Cen­tral 55–51.
  Tim Huskisson’s 17 points paced the Tigers.
  In semi­fi­nal play on Wednes­day, Carthage will meet top-seeded Spring­field Hill­crest and Willard will tan­gle with Joplin.
  On Tues­day:
  — Spring­field Catholic ral­lied from an eight eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to down Fair Grove 50–45.
  Jeff White net­ted five free throws down the stretch to cap his 16-point night, Jack Wolfe col­lected 11 points and seven rebounds and Mitchell Richard­son added 10 points.
  The Irish improved to 14–10, while Fair Grove fell to 17–7.

Lady Pirates claim dis­trict opener (Girls bas­ket­ball roundup)

  SPRING­FIELD — Branson’s start­ing front line of Michaela Dap­prich, Kristina Dodd and Ruby Stevens com­bined for 40 points in the sixth-seeded Lady Pirates’ 60–53 win over third-seeded Spring­field Parkview in a Class 5 Dis­trict 11 first-round game on Mon­day.
  Dap­prich led the Lady Pirates (21−6) with 18 points. Guard Cai­lynn Hayter net­ted 17, while Dodd and Stevens both had 11.
  Bran­son moves on to meet second-seeded Spring­field Kick­apoo at 7:30 p.m. on Wednes­day.
  Else­where on Mon­day:
  —  Rogersville downed Buf­falo 67–49.
  — Spring­field Catholic had its win­ning streak halted at eight games, as Mt. Ver­non edged the Lady Irish 77–69.
  Catholic trailed through­out, but threat­ened late by scor­ing 29 points in the fourth quar­ter.
  Bekah Bade poured in 19 of her 28 points in the sec­ond half and Danielle Lampe net­ted 22.
  The Lady Irish (15−9) meet Hol­lis­ter at 7:30 p.m. on Sat­ur­day in a Class 3 Dis­trict 11 con­test at Fair Grove.

Five COC wrestlers crowned state cham­pi­ons

  COLUM­BIA — The Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence pro­duced a hand­ful of state cham­pi­ons, with Neosho hav­ing a trio of champs, at the MSH­SAA State Wrestling Tour­na­ment on Sat­ur­day.
  Class 3 fea­tured a pair of All-COC finals.
  At 112, Neosho’s Joe Barnes edged Carthage’s Nate Kel­ley 3–1. Barnes fin­ishes with a 43–7 record. At 119, Neosho’s Trevor Hughes downed Carthage’s Trevor Fea­gans 5–1. Hughes ends with a 36–6 mark. 
  Ozark’s Dylan May claimed the 135-pound title by pin­ning Kearney’s Tan­ner Min­der in 4:55. May fin­ishes with a 30–4 record. Neosho’s Blake Stauf­fer was a dom­i­nat­ing 171-pound state cham­pion. His clos­est match at state was an 11–4 vic­tory. Staffer ends with a 52–1 mark.
  Class 3 state runners-up included Neosho 103-pounder Nate Rodriguez (48−6), Neosho 130-pounder Jared Brock (30−10), Ozark 152-pounder Zeb Spicer (38−7) and Willard 215-pounder Joel Wyman (43−2).
  In Class 2, Rogersville senior Sam Zim­mer three-peated as a state cham­pion en route to win­ning the 130-pound title. He scored a 3–1 deci­sion over Pleas­ant Hill’s Joshua Hast­ings in the final to up his record to 46–2.
  Class 2 state runners-up were Boli­var 119-pounder Eric Hughes (41−2) and Reeds Spring 135-pounder Steven Morey (43−1).
